Naming the Seven Dwarves/C.S.T.G

12:13:00 PM

Crassula 'Gollum' : I didn't think it needed another name. It's actually called Gollum's fingers for it's appearance.

So over the course of the summer I acquired a few plants. Most of which weren't identified and even the vendors that sold them to me couldn't give me a straight answer. So I spent a whole night trying to identify and name each one.
I could go on and list the benefits of having plants in your room but really I just wanted to introduce you to them. I'll sprinkle some facts around for the benefit of people who actually care.

These are my newest succulents. Succulents tend to be the popular choice around college because their relatively low maintenance... but we'll see. we'll put them under the Mia Test.

Aeonium Haworthia:  nickname- Hayworth
PLANT BENEFIT #1
OXYGEN: of course you know that plants absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. However, normally plants reverse the process at night. Succulents however do the opposite helping you breath better when you sleep. promoting healthier and more restful sleep

Pachyphytum Bracteosum : Bub

PLANT BENEFIT  #2
NATURAL AIR PURIFICATION:

"Rooms filled with plants were shown to have 50%-60% fewer molds and bacteria in the air than in rooms devoid of plants. " -Ambius

"Plants remove toxins from air – up to 87 percent of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every 24 hours, according to NASA research. VOCs include substances like formaldehyde (present in rugs, vinyl, cigarette smoke and grocery bags), benzene and trichloroethylene (both found in man-made fibers, inks, solvents and paint). Benzene is commonly found in high concentrations in study settings, where books and printed papers abound.
Modern climate-controlled, air-tight buildings trap VOCs inside. The NASA research discovered that plants purify that trapped air by pulling contaminants into soil, where root zone microorganisms convert VOCs into food for the plant." - Bayer

Callisia Repens 'Pink Panther' : Jacques Callisia (gold star to anyone who gets that reference)
PLANT BENEFIT #3
STRESS RELIEF : Visual exposure to plants is shown to decrease blood pressure levels. foliage plants can also reduce noise pressure that we tend not to notice on a regular basis.

Pachyphytum Hookeri: Pan
PLANT BENEFIT #4
INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY: Gosh knows we all need that. studies have shown a 12% increase in productivity in offices where plants were used.

A very young Aloe Vera pup! : Stuart

There's plenty more benefits and facts to why plants are awesome to have. But you can go look them up yourself heh.

Air Plants 1&2 yet to be named but i kind of want to name them after the scallion characters from veggie tales ;P

And now for the Current State of the Garden... now that I don't really have a garden.

You see the succulents: but below them from the top left clockwise. I have a 2 leaves from 'Pan' that dropped and I'm trying to propagate. They've grown tiny roots!
In the cardboard containers I have little yellow pear tomato baby plants. I'm going to have to find bigger planters for them soon.
And then I have rosemary and corvair spinach which should be relatively recognizeable.
