Vegan?? - SICKLY EATERS

Vegan??

9:38:00 PM

As you may well know, Phia is vegan. I am not. However, I've always been intrigued by the ideas and benefits of veganism. But I've lacked the conviction and courage to do it, especially because..... GIVE UP ICE CREAM?!? AND DAIRY? AND BURGERS?? O.O Now, I'm going to be frank, I'm not one to really restrict my diet. Phia will tell you, I eat what I want. Heh. But living with Phia this year, I've come to realize that I might not actually need these things after all. BUT before I start making any sort of life changing commitment, I of course need to do my research! So, I went off to Barnes and Noble and started to do my research.

To be perfectly honest... I wasn't at B&N with that idea in mind. I was just there with my family, but there happened to be a sale on cookbooks! So I was meandering through the books picking up anything that interested me and I found myself going from English Tea to Wagamama's Cookbook to Accidental Vegetarian, and eventually 365 Vegan Smoothies.

Well, it got me thinking and eventually I found myself surrounded in Vegan cookbooks, I found 3 that were especially helpful. Going Vegan, Vegan: on the cheap, and Vegan without Borders. I think those books in that specific order might be a true education and decider of whether or not I shall continue my life as an omnivore.

I really do recommend these books to everyone, whether you're thinking about veganism or not. It's truly educational, though sometimes the view points can be a bit too radical, one must keep an open mind and see the truths in the points they make. They point out something called Moral Schizophrenia where we deride animal cruelty while we also promote it by supporting the system that is the cruelest of all, raising the animals for slaughter. I learned how veganism may actually be ecologically friendly. As someone who does care for the future of world's climate and environment, I see a lot of good points made in their argument. And I learned that, contrary to what I've heard many people say, it is possible to get most of your nutrients that you need to live, and it might actually be healthier for you. It is however, a bit more complicated, because you need to make sure you're eating the right amounts of the right things to get those nutrients.

I am seeing less and less of a reason not to be vegan. All that matters now is my will power and my ability to obtain all the things I need, and my budget. Perhaps this is a start of an experiment. Can Mia be vegan? Does it really help? We shall find out! ... in due time.
